Who is this tour for?

This tour is ideal for:

  • Visitors with a serious interest in WWII, the Holocaust, and the Nazi period
  • People who want a guided experience rather than navigating the memorial alone
  • Small groups and couples who want space to reflect and ask questions
  • School groups and families with older children (14+)

This tour is probably not the best fit for:

  • Visitors looking for a light or general sightseeing day
  • Children under 14

What is the experience like?

Sachsenhausen is not an easy place to visit. The history is confronting, and I don’t shy away from it. Understanding what happened here, and how it was allowed to happen, is the whole point of going.

At the same time, I pay close attention to how each group is responding and adjust the pace and depth accordingly. Some people want to understand every detail. Others need more time to reflect in silence. There’s no single right way to experience a place like this, and I won’t rush you through it.

The goal is to leave with a genuine understanding of what Sachsenhausen was, who was imprisoned here, and why it matters today.

Frequently asked questions

Sachsenhausen is about 35km north of Berlin, in the town of Oranienburg. The journey takes approximately 45 minutes by public transport from central Berlin, and I’ll guide you the whole way.

You’ll need an ABC zone ticket, which covers the journey to Oranienburg. I’ll help you purchase the right ticket at the start of the tour. Groups of 3-5 people can save money with a small group ticket.

Please bring water and snacks as food options near the memorial are very limited. Wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather, as the tour runs in all conditions.

The tour is €500 for a private group of up to 6 people. This includes the memorial entrance fee and a donation to the memorial foundation.

The content of this tour is confronting and deals with extreme suffering and death. I’d recommend this tour for visitors aged 14 and above. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

The memorial covers a large area and involves several kilometres of walking, partly on uneven ground. The tour can be adjusted for wheelchair users or people with mobility restrictions, but be aware of covering long distances on uneven ground.

The tour runs in all weather. There is limited shelter at the memorial, so I’d recommend bringing a waterproof layer.

Yes! If your group is more than 15 people, I can arrange for extra guides to ensure an intimate atmosphere on the tour. For groups between 7 and 15 people please contact me for a quote for 1 guide.
